ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Members of the media were invited to experience Antigua & Barbuda’s tourism product from the perspective of the visitor as the Ministry of Tourism continues its Tourism Week activities.
The events were spearheaded by Communications Officer Samoya Kirby and Product Development Officer Vashti Ramsey of the Ministry of Tourism.
The objective of the Familiarisation Trip was to provide an inside view of tourism related issues.
The day began with a tour of the Ministry of Tourism where its department responsibilities were outlined. Members of the media were then taken on a Historical Harbour Tour beginning at Heritage Quay, proceeding to Rat Island, and Fort James. Media personnel were educated about historical sites on the island, including those in St John’s.
The day continued with another outdoor activity taking place at Antigua Rainforest Canopy Tours where members of OBSERVER Media, ABS Television, ZDK, Caribarena, New Media, and the Antigua Chronicle took part in the zipline challenge.
Tourism week continues today as the Ministry will be showing appreciation at the National Tourism Awards to people within the industry who have demonstrated exemplary customer service. The ceremony will be held at Sandals Grande Mediterranean Resort.
Thursday will mark the launch of the Nation Service Excellence Initiative and on Friday members of the public are invited to take part of the “Be a Tourist for a Day” initiative.
As the week comes to an end, the ministry will be hosting a Sports Day at Yasco Sports Grounds on Saturday and a beach picnic on Sunday.

There is free publicity to take advantage of….I don’t know if the ANU government is aware of a romance novel in the Harlequin Desire series written by Janice Maynard…95% of the book is based in Antigua….don’t know what media spin can be put on it, if it is allowed…but hey something to think about….this is a way to put a positive light on our beautiful island….

Good idea. Unfortunately our government seems to lack vision when it comes to supporting and encouraging these types of initiatives and I see too many missed opportunities instead.
