St. John’s Antigua- “Rejuvenated; refreshed and re-energised are what organizers say residents will be at the Wadadli Gold Calypso Spektakula that had to be postponed to May 19 due to inclement weather on May 6 when it was to have been staged.
Add adjectives like “exciting, hot and unforgettable” and they conjure up the real idea of what DSC Promotions promise to deliver to fans who have so far been grabbing tickets by the dozens.
“Sales were very good. I know we had sold in excess of 1,400 tickets presale and that is very, very good for Antigua …so we were very excited with the pre sale and we believe with another 10 days to reenergize the public and create that hype and intensity they will certainly be droves of persons coming to the Antigua Recreation Ground on May 19 for 9 pm sharp,” Marketing Manager of DSC Promotions, Neil Cochrane said.
While some of the artistes in the initial line-up have had to back out of the act due to prior engagements, Cochrane said new faces have been added as replacements.
The show will be held at Antigua Recreation Grounds (ARG), and will showcase, among others, the internationally renowned Roy Cape All Starts, featuring Blaxx, Ricardo Dru and Darnella Simmons.
Black Stalin has been added to the cast that includes Sugar Aloes, All Rounder, Nadia Baston, Supa Jigga TC, K Rich, and two of Trinidad’s “hottest and budding soca stars” Erphaan Alves and Chucky, a DSC Promotions press statement noted.
From Antigua, there will be Tian Winter and iConic, Tizzy and El A Kru, King Hard Knaxx, Lee P Ching n Charlie X, Richie Francis and King Zacari.
“We were disappointed that the rain foiled our plans for the Labour Day weekend, but we’re looking past that to the excitement that will characterize the show. Spektakula is, after all, the greatest soca show on the planet,” Cochrane said.
Tickets are on sale for $35 until May 12. The price is $40 thereafter. The ticket outlets are Super Power Electronics, Kennedy’s Liquor World, Bargain Centre, Perry Bay and Ken’s Club.Event sponsors are Wadadli Gold; Courvoisier, Coca Cola, Johnnie Walker, Halcyon Cove by Rex Resorts, OBSERVER Media Group, and VYBZ FM.
