ST JOHN’S, Antigua – A young man who accidentally shot and killed his best friend last year has taken responsibility for the incident.
Nickayal “Dollarman” Blaize, who pleaded not guilty to murder, yesterday pleaded guilty to manslaughter before High Court Judge Justice Keith Thom.
The 25-year-old Tindale Road man is accused of shooting Gavia Mannix, 21, on January 26, 2011.
Both men were in an area close to the Bendals Quarry when the shooting occurred.
Mannix was shot to the lower left side of the chest and was rushed to hospital where he died shortly after arrival.
The men had reportedly gone to the area the previous afternoon and decided to stay overnight.
Blaize did not react well to the news of his best friend’s passing.
His sentencing hearing is scheduled for January 25.
