ST JOHN’S, Antigua – LIAT says several of its employees have already received their June salaries and anticipates that all employees will be paid by next week.

The company’s Corporate Communications Manager Desmond Brown made the disclosure in a release on Thursday, days after staff received a memo informing them that they will be paid late.

“Corporate Communications Manager Desmond Brown on Thursday confirmed that the company has commenced the processing of salaries for all employee groups. He advised that salaries for monthly paid employees are due at the end of the month,” the release said.

According to Brown, the company’s pay cycle varies among the different groups of LIAT employees and some LIAT staff have already received their June salaries.

He anticipates that all employees will receive their salaries by Tuesday July 3.

In a memo to staff obtained by OBSERVER Media the company’s human resources manager informed that the delay was due to cash-flow problems worsened by the June 10 fire at LIAT’s hangar.

“As you are aware, LIAT has been experiencing severe cash-flow constraints for some time. The situation has been worsened by the recent fire, which has caused the company to incur significant unplanned expenses in order to continue normal operations,” the correspondence stated.
