Gedale Hypolite captured the overall men’s title in the 10th Annual 10K and 5K run and 5K walk staged by the Hurricane Power Athletics Club last Sunday.
Hypolite won the 10K run 36 minutes and 51 seconds ahead of Jermaine Brann in 39 minutes and 13 seconds. Nevil Nicholls finished third in 39 minutes and 32 seconds.
There were several other individual winners in various categories of the 10K run that started at the event’s main sponsor, Subway Restaurant, on Redcliffe Street in St John’s.
The men’s 40-plus division was won by Arthur Mussington in 42 minutes and 39 seconds. Cleveland Scott finished second while Duke Thomas claimed third.
Pat McDonald captured the women’s 40-plus division while the Under-40 men’s category was won by Mark Murphy in 43 minutes and 41 seconds.
The Under-30 men’s division race was captured by Paul Lovoke while Javier Hypolite clocked 45 minutes and 52 seconds to win the Under-20 men’s category ahead of Kadeem Thomas, who finished second.
Devon Mc Coy crossed the finish line in 49 minutes and 18 seconds to win the Under-16 Boys division ahead of Lemoy Brooks, while Gabriel Davis clocked one hour, five minutes and 50 seconds to capture the Under-16 Girls race ahead of Tensha Meade.
Shemare Mills took 22 minutes and three seconds to win the overall men’s title in the 5K race.
Dwayne Morrissey secured second place with a time of 22 minutes and 24 seconds, while Ricardo Adams came third.
Alexis Nicholas won the overall women’s 5K race in 30 minutes and two seconds. Nia Coates took second place with Shenel Williams taking third.
Tenijah Morris won Under-16 girls division in 49 minutes and two seconds. Emily Gonsalves finished second and Candace Chumly came third.
Sheldon Noble clocked 23 minutes and 58 seconds to win the Under-13 Boys category ahead of Arjahnie Nicholas and O’Marie Joseph, while Christopher Alexander won the Under-11 Boys division.
Clive Ferary captured the men’s 5K walk in 34 minutes and 54 seconds. Linden Elliot finished second in 35 minutes and 12 seconds and Vinceroy Thompson claimed third in 38 minutes and 29 seconds.
The women’s 5K was won by Francine Shaw in 38 minutes and 46 seconds. Shaulyne Laville came second in 52 minutes and 53 seconds, while Phyllis Jeffrey took third place in 53 minutes and 55 seconds.
Hurricane Power club member Monica David said over 150 persons participated in the event.
David said the annual event is geared towards giving Antiguan athletes an opportunity to compete against their local, regional and international colleagues.
She said it’s also an avenue to help build awareness in youth and the community to improve healthy bodies.
