Hatton Stars take inaugural softball feature game

ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Asot’s Arcade Lion Hill were simply no match for Cool & Smooth Hatton Stars when both met in the Antigua & Barbuda Softball Association (ABSCA), Caribbean Alliance Insurance Company sponsored 30 overs-a-side feature ‘game of the week’ on Wednesday night at Dredgers Ground.

Hatton Stars won by six wickets in a game that was played under lights for the first time since its inception.

Batting first, Lion Hill were bowled out for 105 runs in 27.4 overs with the top score coming from the bat of Jevon Howell who made 20. Marvin Webson and Shawn Perry hit 17 and 14 runs, respectively.

Bowling for Hatton Stars, Jeff Lawrence picked up three for three; Alva Joseph took three for 11; Olson Forde, two for 17, while Richard Dyer and Steveroy Anthony collected a wicket each for 20 and 17 runs, respectively. There were 25 extras.

In reply, Hatton Stars amassed 106 for four off 25. 3 overs. Carlson “Kellogs” Richards hit 29, while Cliffien Colbourne and Michael Alexander both hit 15 runs each. Alva Joseph scored 17 not out, and Kim George, 11 not out.

Bowling for Lion Hill, Vincy Bowen claimed two for 22 and Denley Bartley had one for 14.

Meantime, Antigua & Barbuda Softball Association, following the match, presented a cheque – the amount of which was garnered from the proceeds of a fundraising activity – to the sister of softball player, Dion Haywood, who was shot some months ago and is currently undergoing treatment at a Port of Spain hospital.

Camille Christian, the sister of Haywood and who also played softball for Clippers, accepted the cheque from the assistant treasurer of the association, Debra Phillip.
