Today the Observer Media Group has a new Editor-in-Chief.
Gemma Handy assumes a crucial role in the company as we embark on a major drive to ensure that we live up to the tenets of the founders of this company.
Ms Handy was born and raised in the UK but has spent the last six years living in the Caribbean, working in the Turks and Caicos Islands media.
An English Literature/Philosophy graduate, she qualified as a journalist at Liverpool Community College in 2003, before completing her senior training at the Express & Star news group in Britain.
She was associate editor of the Turks & Caicos Weekly News between 2006 and 2011. She has also worked in television in Turks & Caicos and as a stringer for BBC Caribbean World Service.
She assumes the leadership of a converged newsroom where the mandate is to deliver the most credible news with the immediacy that today’s society demands.
She leads a team drawn from across the Caribbean and in particular a cadre of home-grown talent that has distinguished themselves in gathering the very latest on the events and issues that affect our lives.
Gemma succeeds Mickel Brann who held the position with distinction.
We are pleased that Gemma has accepted our offer to lead the team and we look forward to her impact on our deliberations.
