ST GEORGE’S, Grenada, July 13, CMC – Former foreign affairs minister Karl Hood says he is quitting politics altogether, less than two months after he resigned from the government of Prime Minister Tillman Thomas.

“That is the end…I will not put myself through that again,” said Hood, who became a Member of Parliament in 2008 after winning the St George South East seat as a candidate for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“I don’t regret serving my country but I will be taking my exit from that form of public life,” he added.

Hood resigned in May at the height of the infighting within the ruling that has resulted in the dismissal and resignation of several government ministers including the tourism and civil aviation minister Peter David.

At the time of his resignation, Hood claimed that internal differences were responsible for his decision.

The rift within the ruling party widened over the last weekend with Prime Minister Thomas openly David of having an “opposition agenda”.

Thomas told the Caribbean Media Corporation (CMC) that the parliamentary records would show that David has publicly stated his opposition to the party’s political programme.

Over the last weekend, both the NDC and the Prime Minister staged separate rallies to mark the party’s fourth year in government.

General elections were last held here in July 2008.
