Fish: Illegal fishing persists in Barbuda waters

St. John’s Antigua- Officials are reporting that illegal fishing on Barbuda has led to violent confrontations at sea.

Barbuda fisheries manager Wayde Burton says the problem of illegal fishing persists and there is little means for authorities and fishermen themselves to control it.

He says fishermen from the French islands and Dominica have been employing new strategies to garner more of the fishing resource on Barbuda.

 

Burton says fisheries from these islands are now using Antigua and Barbuda registered ships to ply their trade.
