ST JOHN’S, Antigua – The first ever College Cricket League is expected to commence on Thursday, April 19 at the grounds of American University of Antigua in Coolidge.
A launching ceremony will take place at noon when officials from the university and Ministry of Sports officials, members of the Antigua & Barbuda Cricket Association, the teams and management, and other invited guests will witness the historic event.
Teams from American University of Antigua, Antigua & Barbuda Institute of Continued Education (ABICE), Antigua State College, and a combined team from the United Insurance Senior Schools Cricket Competition will take part.
The College League Cricket Competition is organised by Austin Richards Sr, who is a senior sports officer in the Ministry of Sports and the acting co-ordinator of Inter-Schools Cricket, along with Basil Stuart, vice president for Administrative Services and Community Affairs of the university.
The league is being sponsored by American University of Antigua and Cool & Smooth in conjunction with the Ministry of Sports.
The first match of the league, which is due to commence at 1 pm, will involve American University of Antigua against Antigua State College in a 25-over contest.
All matches will be played on the institution’s grounds on Mondays and Fridays at 1 pm.
