ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Local business entrepreneur Carlo Falcone and his daughter Shirley returned on Monday from representing Antigua & Barbuda at the Historic Sports car Racing (HSR) Palm Beach Grand Prix which was held from February 16 to 19 in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Falcone, an avid car racer having already competed in numerous races in the US and Italy, encouraged his daughter to join him in the sport.
Out of 100 entries, the Falcones were the only international competitors.
Carlo Falcone competed in all five races behind the wheel of a Porsche 914.6, finishing on the podium three times.
He placed second in the historic GT Sprint Race and third in the two-hour enduro race.
He was the overall winner of the HSR LeMans 1986 Derek Bell Trophy. This trophy was donated by five-time LeMans champion, Derek Bell, to the West Palm Beach HSR Grand Prix with the sole purpose of recognising the overall winner based on accumulated points from all the races, as well as an opportunity to raise funds for a charity.
Shirley Falcone was also driving a Porsche 914.6 on the KMW racing team. This was her very first track event and she also competed in all of the races where she was successful in accumulating essential time and experience on the track.
She was recognised as being the fastest female on the track and finished 17th overall in the two-hour enduro race.
