Empire Star Girls shine in league opener

ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Playing in the feature match of a double-header, Star Girls gave the Empire family their biggest victory for the year when they trounced Police 5-0 at Radio Range Playing Field.

The Empire girls had goals coming from Karen “Dookie” Warner who had a hat-trick, while Dante Joseph and Nikisha Samuel each had single conversions as they assisted Star Girls in putting handcuffs on the lawwomen.

In the night’s opening fixture, CPTSA Wings got off to a good start in the Juniors’ Division of the competition when they defeated Young Warriors, 4-1.

Tane Codrington opened the scoring in minute 11 for Wings before Fernora Barthley drew Warriors level in minute 26. A three-goal blitz by Danielle Emanuel however shut down all hopes of a Warriors’ comeback. The young player had goals in minutes 45, 51 and 65 respectively, as she led Wings to the opening victory.

On Saturday, Lady Hoppers had the league’s biggest margin of victory to date when they trounced All Saints’ Lady Attackers, 6-0.

Karissa Crump had a hat-trick as she netted in minutes 27, 29 and 45 respectively, while there were single efforts from Kimesha Martin in the 55th, Arianne Whyte in the 60th, and Tasheka Riley in the 86th minutes.

In the feature match-up on Saturday, Lady 5Ps had the upper hand on Jennings Challengers, 2-0. Both goals in the contest were netted by Kai Jacobs.

The competition is slated to continue this week with matches in both the Junior and Senior Divisions at Radio Range Playing Field.
