Dumping is a disgrace

A blot on the landscape: This photo of garbage dumped on a local beach was sent in by an outraged Daily OBSERVER reader.

Dear Editor

Last Sunday, I took some visitors to a small beach, located between Hideaway Bay and Dieppe Bay (Royal Antiguan).

From the photos, you can see the disgusting scene I encountered. It is, indeed, disturbing.

“Tourism is everybody’s business” is a mantra that is posted around.  Obviously, the message is not sinking in.

Who in his right mind would pass the Cooks Dump and dump such filth on the beach?

It is as if it were a deliberate attempt to sabotage our tourism product.  Dumping on a beach should be an indictable offence.

In fact, the photos show only half the story.  From the seashore end, there are hundreds of bottles on the sand, as well as piles of other rubbish.
