ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Antigua & Barbuda, recently voted the Most Romantic Caribbean Destination, is gearing up to host its sixth annual Destination Wedding Promotion in June. Organisers decided that this year’s Romance Month will “Go Green.”

This year’s lucky couple, Jacqueline Adams and Ron Chrichlow are NY City residents, originally from the UK, who are eco-conscious and deliberate in minimising their own footprint on the planet.

As part of this year’s Eco-Chic theme, they intend to ensure that their wedding celebration also minimises its effect on the environment.

The couple, who met at a scooter club in NYC, will tour the island by scooter as well as visit Green Island, an offshore wildlife sanctuary, and some organic gardens throughout the island.

The couple also plans to plant their own tree as a symbol of their growing love and commitment to each other and to the environment.

Nonsuch Bay Resort, one of Antigua’s newest properties, is the venue for this year’s green-themed wedding.  Located in the Parish of St Phillips, the resort is known for its sailing experiences and nearby Green Island as one of its main attractions.

After exchanging their nuptials, the couple will be escorted by boat to Green Island for a photo-op that will highlight the destination’s wildlife and natural reserve.

“Green or echo chic weddings are a growing trend as couples focus on sustainability and minimising some of the waste often associated with traditional weddings, while preserving the environment for future generations.

By integrating this theme into our romance promotion we will only help strengthen our competitive position,” said Derede Samuel-Whitlock, Antigua & Barbuda’s Director of Tourism USA.

“We are so excited about our upcoming wedding in Antigua and even more excited that we can bring awareness about the environment and how we can celebrate in Antigua & Barbuda, this little bit of paradise, without disrupting it,” says the gushing couple.

The Eco-Chic Destination Wedding is planned for June 16 at Nonsuch Bay Resort at 6 pm. This annual all-expense-paid promotion is provided by the Antigua & Barbuda Tourism Authority in conjunction with participating sponsors.
