Dear Editor
I am seeking your assistance in addressing a libelous situation arising from comments made by certain individuals responding online to certain articles published in your newspaper.
In the comment made by the individual using the name ‘frays farm’ about the article published on June 25, it was stated that I was against the development of the Codrington Lagoon National Park.
Please note that I served as project manager for the European Union funded Caribbean Regional Environment Programme (CREP) demonstration project in Barbuda.
One of the achievements of this project was the declaration of the lagoon as a national park under the National Parks Act. In other words, I was one of the persons responsible for the existence of the lagoon national park. This came about after at least 16 years of advocacy on my part.
What was stated by ‘frays farm’ was therefore false and I believe the intention was malicious and designed to tarnish my reputation. The comment on the article of June 28 made by the individual using the name ‘concern’ is also false.
I do not have a problem with anyone disagreeing with statements which I make, it is their right. Individuals, however, do not have the right defame my character. This situation is particularly frustrating since my attempts to add comments to the online forum have proven futile. I was in contact with the moderator of the online forum after the first instance but I am still unable to post comments.
I would be grateful for your assistance in this matter and I would hope more stringent measures are put in place to prevent individuals attempting to discredit persons by these means. Two instances suggest a pattern.
