ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Earlier this week, the Carnival Development Committee (CDC) received a generous donation of 11 HP laptops that will be awarded to various winners of the 2012 Carnival events.
On Tuesday, Minister of Information, Broadcasting, Telecommunications, Science and Technology Dr Edmond Mansoor presented the laptops to CDC chairman Kayode O’Marde.
The minister noted that being able to present the laptops as promised was no easy task as the ministry’s workload has been quite strenuous.
“We are delivering on our promises, and I know this has been a tough call. We are under enormous strain here at the Ministry to provision hardware to various government offices. But thanks to Wendy Derrick and the team, we are able to present the CDC with 11 of these units,” Dr Mansoor said.
On accepting the donation, the CDC chairman said the committee was grateful for the donation as the organisation has been struggling financially.
“This year has been a hard year for us financially and all the assistance we have received so far we are grateful for these laptops are top class laptops … On behalf of Dr Ramsey I say thank you; he worked hard to get these laptops for the winners and we are very grateful,” O’Marde said.
The minister noted that the donation is part of the government’s commitment to CDC and to ensuring that Antigua’s Carnival, one of the Caribbean’s greatest summer festivals, continues to get bigger and better each year.
