So I finally saw the latest Tyler Perry movie, Temptation; and I left the cinema wondering how he came up with that title and what the message was. What I’m pretty sure of is that what stayed with me is not what he intended; because Perry generally writes cautionary tales for women. And what I saw was a how-not-to manual for men.

Usually on a Saturday morning, I’m not fully conscious before 10 am; but a few weeks ago, I was up early enough to catch a bit of Racchel’s programme and to hear her commentary on a certain song, Anita Baker’s Been So Long. She commented that, some years ago, she’d found herself singing this tune a bit too often and, as a consequence, was forced to check herself and the relationship she was in … supposedly.

I didn’t quite know how to take a video clip that was BB’ed to me recently: A preacher declaring that the “new F-word” in his church is “forgiveness,” and exhorting the congregation to tell the person next to them, “F-you!” Well, while the jury has gone upstairs to determine whether that was cute or crass, I’m taking the opportunity to slip through with a few F-words of my own.

As part of her acknowledgement of the importance of International Women’s Day, Coffee Break host Marcella Andre-Georges, on Monday, invited women to call in or text and complete the declaration, “I am woman enough to … .” Men were encouraged, as well, to complete their own statement: “I am man enough to support a woman who ….” Well, who told her to ask that?
