ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – Fresh on the heels of his three-peat, Calypso Monarch Keithroy “De Bear” Morson has described the recent competition as tough.
De Bear told Observer Media he is particularly pleased with the win on Sunday night, since he had to fight much harder for the crown this year.
Listen:
De Bear relegated Zacari king, stage name Zacari, to second place…
Heading into the Finals there was a war of words between the two veterans with each promising to best the other on the night of the big show down.
Zacari told Observer Media shortly after the winners were announced, that the monarch’s second song was a rehash of his other tunes.
This is how De Bear responded.

There will be much talk about De Bear winning and his strategy. While rivalry and bacchanal is an essential part of our festival it’s the second time in my memory that a monarch’s rendition is almost solely based on direct ridicule of a competing component, and both times the same artist, is this a “pick on” competition – could be a new and winning trend.
