KINGSTON, Jamaica, April 16, CMC – Broadcaster Wayne Whyte faces the possibility of 15 years in jail after being charged in connection with a gun attack on journalist Jody-Ann Gray earlier this month.
Police confirmed that Whyte, who works with the KOOL FM and another man, Safari Farr, will appear in Spanish Town Resident Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday in connection with the incident.
Director of Public prosecution (DPP) Paula Llewellyn told the Gleaner newspaper on Monday that Whyte and Farr have been charged with wounding with intent, illegal possession of a firearm and illegal possession of ammunition.
She said the penalty for both wounding with intent and shooting with intent would be a minimum of 15 years in prison.
The authorities said that 28-year-old Gray, who also works at KOOL FM, was shot in the face and hand by attackers outside her home in Portmore, St Catherine, last Wednesday. Gray is seven months pregnant.
Over the weekend, Head of the St. Catherine Police, Senior Superintendent Colin Pinnock, said that additional charges could be laid against those allegedly involved in the shooting.
“We have not ruled out anything,” Pinnock said.
