St. John’s Antigua- The police and the fire department are investigating the circumstances surrounding a house fire that destroyed the home of a Herberts woman in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
It was reported that fire tenders from St Johns Fire Department were called out to Herberts, where a 24×16 two-bedroom plywood structure, owned and occupied by 35-year-old Sharon Evans, was on fire.
The woman, who was the sole occupant of the house at the time, went to sleep shortly after 8 pm, and around 12:30 am was awoken by a loud explosion that shook the house.
The occupant then realised that the house was on fire and called for help. Fire fighters arrived shortly on the scene and extinguished the blaze. However, the house was already destroyed.
No one was injured in the incident. The cause of the fire is not yet known however, investigations into the matter are ongoing.
There have been 308 fire calls for the year, of which 22 were house fires occurring in St John’s.
