BELIZE CITY, Belize, CMC – New United States ambassador to Belize, Vinai K. Thummalapally, has arrived to take up his appointment in this Caribbean Community (CARICOM) country.

On his arrival, Thummalapally said in a brief statement that he considers it a great honour to have been selected by President Barack Obama to be Washington?s envoy in Belize.

Belize and the United States have had strong bilateral ties, and Thummalapally, a businessman, said during his appointment, he will ?dedicate myself to strengthening our ties?.

?Together, we will endeavour to bring the rewards of democracy, peace and prosperity to all Belizeans,? said Thummalapally.

Originally from Hyderabad, India, Thummalapally moved to the US in 1974 to pursue engineering studies.

He is married and has two children. Prior to his appointment the couple made their home in Colorado.
