St. John’s Antigua- Many people say they own jeans for three main reasons; comfort, durability and affordability. These three words, in a nutshell can also summarise the annual Blue Jeans Fete which recorded a milestone last weekend.

The event celebrated 10 years in existence, proving its durability and by being consistent and withstanding the crucial test of time. And while like any other item of clothing, a pair of blue jeans always needs to be replaced, fans of the event say they dread the day when organisers will stop hosting the traditional activity.

Blue Jeans Fete, in its 10th year, has undoubtedly earned a permanent place on the growing list of pre-carnival activities.

So what of comfort? There was comfort but not complacency. Splash Antigua was transformed into an oasis for party lovers who wanted to have good clean fun. Overall, the setting was intimate, with all the niceties of tents and lights. Parking too was hassle free, secured and well organised.

The affordability question we can debate; however there was a general feeling that the paying public got value for money.

A performance by Claudette Peters also added value to Blue Jeans. The Soca star seemed right at home performing to a crowd of thousands. The mature crowd appeared to have thoroughly enjoyed the fete, which ended in the early hours of Sunday morning.

It is believed that everyone owns a pair of blue jeans, although not everyone wore them that night. There were women in heels and skirts while men were mainly dressed in casual in v-necks and shorts.

Organisers would have a lot to celebrate though, that despite the criticism, they are able to sustain a fete of class and quality.
