The Caribbean HIV AIDS Alliance (CHAA) has intensified its initiative to reduce the incidences of HIV infection during the Carnival by distributing over 7,000 prevention pouches, under the slogan “Think Safe, Act Smart,” to spectators and revellers.
Prevention pouches contain male and female condoms as well as educational material on HIV prevention and are designed to increase awareness and help the public to make responsible decisions in regards to safe sex.
This initiative forms part of the Eastern Caribbean Community Action Project, a programme sponsored by the US government, which aims to counter the increasingly ubiquitous presence of the HIV virus in the Caribbean.
Further information can be obtained from the CHAA Antigua Office on Newgate Street, between 8 am and 4 pm, or via 562 7328.
