Melting Pot moves the crowd

Carnival received a welcome energy booster Wednesday night as thousands filled Carnival City for the Caribbean Melting Pot.
The show brought together an impressive number of local and regional artistes, which meant that patrons were treated to a taste of it all before the headline acts hit the stage.
T&T duo Faye-Ann Lyons and Bunji Garlin made their entrance in the early hours of the morning, by which time the fete was in full swing.
The couple made for a formidable partnership on stage and demonstrated a beautiful chemistry and understanding of each other, which meant that they both shined.
The two were not just in sync with each other; they had the revellers at the mercy of their every instruction.
The partygoers were out in their numbers, and it was quite impressive how well they responded to the duo.
Their simple but effective performance, which made no use of back-up dancers and had no striking visual flair, gave revellers the liberty to join in and jam away.
Faye-Ann had the crowd moving to her biggest hits like Meet Super Blue, Display and Get On while Bunji showed off his lyrical genius with some incredible freestyle.
Donning the simplest of outfits Faye-Ann stepped out of the mould set for so many female artistes and brought the power of her performance into greater focus.
The T&T stars delivered the full package and explored all their hits, past and present.
“When the lights dimmed and the music lowed and Faye-Ann started singing This is Carnival … it was just incredible,” remarked one patron.
“The way they fed off each other and allowed each other the space to do their thing was pretty amazing. I think other bands could learn a lot from them,” said another fan.
Claudette “CP” Peters and Taxik had earlier turned up the heat on the party with a dominant performance that would have sent a warning to all her competitors come Bacchanal Saturday.
The four-time Party Monarch gave a commanding performance of Dung Dey that was so popular, it questions why she has chosen not to use it for Party Monarch.
Together with Sleepy, CP enthused the crowd with the energy they would need to take them through the morning.
Dominican greats Triple Kay got their chance later on as they treated bouyon fans to a Burning Flames-type session of non-stop jamming.
The session got wild when they got to their popular song Sousse and then the band got crazy themselves, as they imitated actions to the song with the help of a female fan.
Upcoming Jamaican artiste G Whizz took control of the stage soon after as he went through tune after tune.
Whether it was that partygoers were more in the soca mood or are unfamiliar with all his tunes, they were not fully sold, but his fans certainly enjoyed the hits.
A host of other artistes hit the stage throughout the night, while Drastic was one of the most popular and memorable to do so with his popular tune Sugary Waistline.
The show mostly pulled off smooth transitions between artistes and bands, something vital given the length of the lineup, and it led to a good constant vibe throughout.
Ending off the show was Onyan and the Burning Flames who took the jam right down to the morning.
