American R&B stars Faith Evans and Ginuwine ventured over to Barbuda where they visited Holy Trinity Primary School Tuesday.
“Scores of fans lined up to get a photo or autograph from the performers, or just to have an opportunity to interact with them,” a Ministry of Tourism communiqué read. “Barbuda Senator McKenzie Frank welcomed the contingent to Barbuda and thanked them for including the sister island as part of their itinerary.”
Evans and Ginuwine were presented with a gift from the Barbuda Council then both performers proceeded to plant a mahogany tree on the school premises to commemorate their visit to the island. The initiative is called “Planting Trees of Love.”
Evans said, “I had never heard of Barbuda before this trip, but it is definitely one of the most beautiful places that I have ever visited. I would love to do a video or some film project on Barbuda. I can’t wait to come back and bring my entire family to see this.”
US Director of Tourism, Derede Samuel-Whitlock who accompanied the group, indicated that the celebrity tree-planting event had been added as part of the Romance Month promotions this year.
“All of our personalities had indicated a willingness to participate in a community project during their visit and to lend their names to help spread the message of love, peace and unity throughout the destination,” she said.

One day earlier, actor Malik Yoba planted a cashew tree at Body Ponds as part of the climate change project co-ordinated by Sandals Foundation and the Ministry of Agriculture’s Environment Division.
The Romance Month promotions, launched in 2006, have been designed to give visitors and residents a chance to “feel the love” of the destination and combine all of the entertainment elements that keep romance alive.
