It’s a time for prayer

No one can deny that the times we are in demand prayer. Close to a quarter million (230,000 and counting) persons died as a result of an earthquake in Haiti. France and other countries in Europe faced hurricane force winds bringing death and destruction. Chile was struck by one of the severest earthquakes in history that triggered a tsunami. The damages and casualties are still being counted. The Caribbean area is in the midst of one of our worst droughts and presently, there is no end in sight. These times are serious.

There is a call for 24 hours of prayer to break the drought and cycle of destruction. Everyone is encouraged to pray. Wherever you are, at any time, anywhere, pray.

Friday, March 13 is set aside as a Day of Prayer beginning at 6 am and ending at 6 am, Saturday, March 14.

Pastors are encouraged to open their churches from 6 pm to midnight or whatever time will serve the purpose best.

OBSERVER Radio will host Prayer Radio from 12 midnight to 5 am. Other stations may want to open the airwaves for prayers as well, at a time that best suits their programming.

Families are encouraged to pray in their homes from 5 am to 6 am Saturday morning.

Leading ministers of the gospel have been contacted, and all agreed that this is a good idea and would support this move. Church organisations may choose the times and methods of prayer and make announcements accordingly.

Scriptures declare and boldly proclaim that God hears and answers prayer. God has always encouraged people to pray at all times, in every circumstance. Humans began praying in the time of E’nos,” a grandson of Adam. (Genesis 5:26)  And to Seth … was born a son. Then God commands all persons to pray. “And call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you; glorify me.” (Psalm 50:15)

Jesus exhorted the people in the first century to pray. (Matthew 5:6) “But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your father, who is unseen. Then your father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

He also promised if two or more believe when we pray, he will grant our requests. “Again I tell you that if two of you agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven.” (Matthew 18:19)

There is nothing God will not do when His people call upon Him in faith. (Matthew 17:20) “And Jesus said … I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say unto the mountain, remove hence to yonder place, and it shall remove; nothing shall be impossible unto you.”

God has never changed. (Hebrews 13:8) Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

A special note to all pastors and ministers of the gospel

The time is urgent. There is not the personnel nor other resource to personally write letters to every pastor or minister of the gospel as the proper protocol would demand.

This is not a call to support an individual or group with a partisan agenda. It is a call for those who believe in God’s unlimited power to organise those they lead and those who would listen to them, to call on God for His divine intervention. When it is finished, none of us can claim any glory. The glory belongs to the Lord.

I plead with every believer in Jesus Christ, “Let us unite our hearts, and focus our faith in the God who holds the world in His hands; that he will intervene on our behalf and spare us from disaster; send rain upon the thirsty land, and bring comfort and relief to those who have suffered in the recent earthquakes.”

Let us pray especially for those who have lost loved ones, those who are now homeless and lost all. Those who are still suffering from injuries received, and the families that are still separated and living apart because of lack of proper housing.

Pray that God will send rain, and that as a united people in the Caribbean, we would commit ourselves to follow Him and honour Him in our lives.
