St. John’s Antigua- Relatives of Everet Camacho-Tittle are furious that since his shooting death at his Sand Haven apartment Thursday night, the police have not called in any of them to identify his body.
The 39-year-old deceased is a father of two, and is also known as “Sean” and “Freckles”. He was gunned down at about 7 pm and neighbours reported seeing a man in a dark hooded shirt, three quarter pants and Timberland boots running from the scene.
The dead man’s wife of seven years, Marsha Joseph-Tittle said she rushed to the scene after her mother informed her of the shooting. She said she was forced to stay behind police tapes as investigators combed the area for evidence.
“They said I could not see him at the time and they had attitude. I asked the police to see his face to make sure it was my husband and they refused. They just took up his body, put it in a bag and then in the (hearse),” the grieving widow said.
She said the police informed the family they would be contacted when it is time to do the autopsy.
“I had to stand and watch the body on the sand. He was in his shorts lying on his back but I never saw the face of the person,” Joseph-Tittle said.
The woman said she saw blood on the balcony and on the curtain inside her husband’s beach-front apartment and according to witness reports, the room was disturbed as though there was a struggle inside.
Roselyn “Mama Rosa” Smith, mother of the deceased, confirmed her daughter-in-laws’ statement and added that she too was denied the opportunity to see her son’s body before it was taken to Barnes Funeral Home.
“We are upset. I could not go close. I feel ashamed how we were treated. Up to now (late yesterday) none of us got to see him. They said we would get to see him in a couple of days after the autopsy. It made no sense we went there because we didn’t get to see him,” Smith said.
Two months ago the deceased moved out of his marital home in Point and took up residence at the Dickenson Bay apartment where he met his demise.
“We had a disagreement and he packed up his stuff and left. He came by Wednesday and asked to see our son but he was sleeping and he and he gave him a kiss and we spoke for a while,” Tittle reminisced.
The widow said she also spoke to her husband hours before he was killed and encouraged him to take his medication and admit himself to the Clarevue Psychiatric Hospital for treatment for schizophrenia.
She had hopes he would have done so by Monday.
“I still can’t believe this has happened. His neighbor said he heard the noise like cutlass banging against the apartment wall and he went to the door and saw a man running down the stairs from the apartment towards Rush Nightclub,” Tittle said.
Camacho-Tittle then reportedly emerged from the room bleeding from the neck and the neighbor tried to suppress the bleeding by wrapping a towel around his neck.
“They told me he was conscious, walking around for a while before he collapsed and died on the beach. The ambulance didn’t get there until about half an hour to 45 minutes after the incident,” Joseph-Tittle said.
The woman, who bore her husband one son, said the deceased was a trained Pilot but he chose never to fly.
Instead, he worked in his family’s business, the Scent Shop, which was located on High and Thames streets.
Camacho-Tittle is the third person gunned down so far this year.
Police have since called on residents to report anything they know of the shooting death. Persons who have information can contact the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) at 462-3913/14 or Crime Stoppers at 800-TIPS (8477).

The Royal Antiguan Police Force needs to be revampted. Most of the officers do an exceptionable job of being rude and unprofessional. They lack skills, man power, organization, motivation and training. I’ll give you tips if you need it commissioner and I’ll gladly come home to show my expertise. They don’t even have an up to date forensic lab much less proper policing equipment. Lord………please help them for they know not what to do. Big up to endurance!!!! Well said. Antigua is indeed crime ridden and 85% of the country does look disgusting.

Amen to that !!!!! Wake up fellow Antiguans because if not, it will be you or a family member next time. People, if you know something say something. Citizens in every parish should demand from their elected mayors an opportunity to voice their concerns at an open forum with the commissioner of police, chief magistrates, governor, Prime Minister and other elected officials as a means to help formulate a strategic plan to combat crime, poverty and low revenue for e.g. Tourism. Tourists are not gonna visit unsafe places. Then again, they go to Jamaica!!!!! But look at their tourist areas and an airplane ticket to go their as well as the other islands are resonable compared to Antigua and I honestly don’t see why. THERE IS NOT MUCH TO ANTIGUA ANYMORE…..Antiguans I beg you….Take pride in yourself and your country. Clean up the streets, paint and repair private dwellings and business buildings. And for the love of Jah people………Antiguans are too rude and hostile. Who wants to spend their hard earned money under such conditions. Word of mouth goes along way…….and in case you guys aren’t aware, thats the way businesses thrive and that of course is beneficial to you. Improve in the areas of, professionalism, courtesy, respect, brotherly love, empathy, safety and recreation and then things will improve. Why don’t the government give incentives to all qualified professional nationals abroad to return home and help improve and uplift the country. Politicians, stop misappropriating funds, please channel the money where is rightfully belongs and stop acting like vultures. Someone needs to break this cycle because there is no refuge in America, Canada, England or else where like before and as we all see Stanford got 110 years. Even the queen of Englands bank account was freezed… so wake up leaders. Its hide time for a change. Think about our children and their futures.. Stop all this greed, selfishness and envy. Why would you not want the best for your fellow man, think of the many ways their success could be of benefit to you. Why can’t we all get along and cohabitate peacefully. What you people think gonna happen, things will only get worse. My fellow Antiguans why are so many of our elders and children being abused…….There is blatant lack of principle, morals, respect and humility amongst us. The young and old acting a fool….no matter their SES “socio economic status”, Age or Sex. I am so heart broken and ashamed. I really love my country and my people and in spite of all our flaws, I still proudly tell people about the little island in the sun.

What is needed is capital punishment. In due time, tourist and antiguans living abroad will stop coming to antigua. Antigua is a crime ridden little disgusting place and the authorities are so inept and out of touch it isn’t funny.
The good people of antigua should defend themselves by any means because the government is incapable to protect them. MR Cort and all his colleagues should resign because they are useless.
